How this calculator works
Your FIRE number (Financial Independence, Retire Early) uses the same 25x formula as traditional retirement planning — annual expenses × 25 — applied to a target retirement age that may be well before the traditional 58-60. Reaching it sooner is primarily a function of your savings rate, not your income level.
FAQs
What's a safe withdrawal rate?
4% is the standard starting assumption, though some early retirees use a slightly lower rate (3-3.5%) given a longer retirement horizon to plan for.
What if I want to retire even earlier than this suggests?
You'd need either a higher savings rate, a leaner target lifestyle (LeanFIRE), or a plan that includes some part-time income (BaristaFIRE) — see FIRE movement explained for Indian salaried employees for the different variations.
